Man City new boy, Ferran Torres reveals why he left Valencia

Manchester City’s new recruit Ferran Torres says he left Valencia after the Spanish club failed to name him the captain and one of their highest-paid players.

The 20-year-old wingers joined former English Premier League champions in a deal worth £21, and how now revealed why left the La Liga side.

“I wanted to stay and I put forward the conditions to do so. They weren’t above the club’s means,” he told Marca.

Torres revealed that he asked for the captaincy and a wage increase, he also wanted Valencia owner Peter Lim to be involved in any talks over a new deal with them.

“I wanted two of the three, but none were fulfilled. I know they’re not in the same position as big European clubs, but I was able to lead that project and wanted to be treated as such,” said the Spain Under-21 international.

Torres added that he started thinking about leaving Valencia last summer soon after helping Spain win European Under-19 Championship. He made up his mind about moving to the Premier League after speaking to City manager Pep Guardiola.
