Arsenal is set to complete the signing of 20-year-old defender Jonathan Dinzeyi, who was released by Tottenham in July.
That’s according to James McNicholas of The Athletic.
Dinzeyi has been capped by England at under-18s level and started for the Spurs senior side in a pre-season game against Girona back in 2018. He’s yet to appear for the first team under Jose Mourinho. The signing of the young defender represents a recruitment drive aimed at adding promising youngsters to the Gunners setup with Matt Smith and Zech Medley already having confirmed loan moves away from the club.
Low-risk/cost signings like Dinzeyi, Tim Akinola and George Lewis are seen as good business for Arsenal. Even if they fail to make the first-team breakthrough, they could generate profit for the club further down the line.
The player will be 21 in October and made six appearances for Tottenham’s under-23s in 2019-20. Dinzeyi is a tall, elegant player who started out as a winger in school but settled as a central defender after modelling his game on Jan Vertonghen.
